Day 2 in GZ

The White Swan:

The White Swan:

At the Cow & Bridge:

This is Eme's little friend. The orphange nanny told us their foster families were neighbors and they spent a lot of time together. Phoebe is simply adorable and she is doing great with her new family as well:

School children:

Beautiful Guangzhou:

More school children:

The look when she is out of my arms:

Coming back to me:

We are day 2 in GZ….& it’s fab~u~lous! I really love this place. It’s quaint and everyone is so nice. We are loving all the cute little shops along the beautiful roads. Emerson continues to be my little chimpanzee. She is coming more and more alive with her little personality and we think she is really sweet. She does *like* her Daddy, as long as he doesn’t pick her up. She did allow him to bathe her yesterday and we considered that a huge step. We are not forcing the issue. So far, I am the only one that holds, feeds and soothes her….not that I mind one little bit. I am hoping that she finds Daddy’s lap a little more appealing by the time we board the plane for the long journey home. My muscles are sore from carrying her everywhere, but I wouldn’t do it any other way. She might enjoy the stroller, but I believe it’s more important for her to be close to me than checking out the world. She sees it all anyway, she just has a different viewpoint ;0) I wouldn’t trade all those sweet little moments that happen between us for nothing…even my aching back. Daddy went for the 45 minute massage, because I guess carrying around all my shopping goodies is just as hard on the muscles as the 18lb chimp.

Yesterday we went to get her visa photo and today was her medical exam. She did great up until the strange man took her from me to inspect her, you can tell by her face in the photo, poor baby. The little squirt ways 18.4 lbs. She doesn’t eat like a lot of the babies do. She does have a shut off valve and she shakes her head no when she is done. She has also mastered saying ‘all done’ in sign language to go with her shaking head. She’s a very fast learner. She is working on saying ‘more’ in sign language. She whispers ‘up’ when she needs help sitting back up. She has the most stinky tooties and we blame the odor on the steamed egg and congee=0). She loves bacon, tater tots and now scrambled eggs. We have yet to succeed in getting any fruit in her, except jar baby food. She loves the yogurt, but will pick the tiny pieces of fruit out with her tongue. Last night we went to Cow & Bridge and she wouldn’t even eat the Thai banana pizza, which was smashing because of the banana. The rest of the meal really sucked, but she enjoyed the noodles off my plate. We thought about ordering the ostrich intestine, but opted for the chicken congee to which she inhaled.

Eme has woken up and it’s time to play!

It's great that you and Jason have such an understanding on how important it is for Eme to bond and feel secure; I know it's hard for Jason that she isn't allowing him to hold her now but how great it is that he "gets it" and is patient in allowing her to come around! You have a real sweetie in Eme as it shows in your pictures. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Woohoo...LOOK at that smile. I love it.

Ahhh...the exam room. Brings back memories. Poor Eme...she was NOT digging that part without a doubt.

Glad you are enjoying the island. It was my favorite part of the trip. Shop on and enjoy.

Your trip seems to have flown. Not long now and you'll be stateside with your boys again.

I love seeing all the pics of your beautiful girl!! I see the yellow flower halter shirt made it to China. And looks like the Robeez shoes are working out. Makes my heart ache a little when I see them on Eme and remember you, me and Colleen buying them on our last day together. That seems like just yesterday but look how much has changed. :)

She's doing fabulously. And you and J look really happy.

cute pics!

The food at the cow and bridge was bad...:( We had dinner there quite a few times. Sophie mastered "more" pretty quick:) She also was good about stopping when she was full. It cracks me up that your girl spits out the fruit in yogurt...Ben would pick parsley off chicken!!

love the pics of Eme in the red dress - red is her color. The yellow outfit is adorable - what a mug on that doll!!!!
Well, you had written earlier how you haven't heard her cry yet - from the looks of the examination picture, I am guessing you heard her cry? Bless her heart - poor baby.
I have been studying the photos of you wearing the Ergo, because I have NO FREAKIN' IDEA how to strap that sucker onto me.
Love your updates - THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time out to write them!!!!!
XOXOXO

I see the pictures of Guangzhou and sometimes it feels like yesterday we were there. I can't believe it has been almost two years.

Lovin' all the smiley pics of your sweet girl!

Our indulgence in Guangzhou was Haagen Dazs ice cream that was sold in one of the little sandwich shops near the White Swan. It tasted so good when the afternoons got really hot.

Glad you are keeping her close and not using the stroller (that's what we thought was best too). My DH was my "pack mule" so he suffered differently than us Mom's did! I was so tired and sore but having AA in front of me the whole time was worth it.
Have some fun! Enjoy!

Seeing those pictures bring back so many wonderful memories for me! I loved staying at the White Swan and strolling through the streets every day. The breakfast buffet is awesome, too.

Have you guys gone swimming yet? We really enjoyed the pool and swam every day.

Thanks for all the updates and pictures. It has been so nice to follow along with you after all this time :-)

Never tried the cow and bridge. We stayed at the China hotel off the island I can't remember the name of it but we ate at a really nice italian restaurant in guanzhou. It was really nice to have some food similar to home.
LOVE that sweet smile of Eme. Just brightens up my day as soon as I load the blog and see that sweet face.
Enjoy your last few days in China. I know you can't wait to see your boys again.

Emerson looks so much happier than she did a week ago. (and she looked pretty doggone happy then). The look on her face when they took her from her mama is heartbreaking. How wonderful that she's looking to you for comfort.

You look so happy!!!

I can't wait to see the pics when you take her home.

I just brought our daughter home to her three brothers- so so cool. They love her :)

Eme has such a great smile. When you see it you just can't help smiling yourself!

I don't anticipate the medical exam being easy. I think more kids cry than don't cry. But I can't say I blame them.

All of her outfits are fabulous and so cute on her. And I love the sepia photo of the street. It reminds me of New Orleans and the district along St. Charles street where all the big beautiful old houses are. Hopefully we'll get our own photos like that.

Not much longer and you'll be home!
